MANCHESTER RL

Salford City Reds Foundation has been busy working within the City of Manchester to open up the city as an area for rugby league to develop and grow in. Since 2007 we have delivered a systematic programme of coaching & coach education in schools across Manchester.

In April 2008 the Reds Foundation took the historic step of appointing its first RL Development Officer. As a result for the last 9 months Seb Rowe has been taking the lead with delivery on the ground. The appointment was made possible with a partnership between the Reds Foundation, the RFL and St Peters RC High School, with specific goals of developing new sustainable community clubs with junior structures.

There has been considerable success within Manchester over the last 18 months with 2 new junior community clubs in the form of Manchester Storm and Manchester St Peters. Additional success was seen with the arrival of an Open Age team in the form of Mancunians RL. A Manchester Development Group is now in place to provide some structure and direction. The group has members from local key organisations including the Reds Foundation, Manchester Council, Manchester Community Leisure Services on board.
