Nearly 100 youngsters from schools and community Rugby League clubs in Salford and Manchester will get the once in a lifetime opportunity to meet members of the England Rugby League team this Tuesday at a training session in Manchester.
In preparation for their key Gillette Four Nations fixture against Australia next Saturday (October 31) at Wigan’s DW Stadium, England are training in Manchester. Along with Salford City Reds Foundation they have invited pupils from St Peters RC High School and Wright Robinson High School along with players from Manchester Storm and Manchester St Peters community clubs to see how the side gets ready for a major international fixture.
The youngsters aged between 11 and 14 will watch the England team train, get autographs and have their pictures taken with the likes of team captain Jamie Peacock, Adrian Morley and Richie Myler.
Phil Williams, the RFL’s Marketing Manager, said: “This is great opportunity for some local youngsters to meet some of the best players in the world as they get ready for the biggest game of the tournament so far – England v Australia.”
Jim Dixon, Deputy Head at St Peters RC High School, said: “St Peters RC High School are delighted to be partnering Salford City Reds as we continue to develop Rugby League in Manchester and events like this certainly help.
“The sport has made giant strides in the last three years, with more Manchester specific development staff and the development of a Rugby League hub site at St Peters in the pipeline. To be invited along to an England training session will certainly last long in the memory of all those attending.”
Mark Brocklehurst, Salford City Reds Foundation Community & Business Development Manager, said: “Salford City Reds Foundation has been working extremely hard to establish a solid base for Rugby League within the City of Manchester over the last three years.
“For the first time schools are regularly playing the sport, sustainable community clubs exist and public and private partnerships are flourishing. It’s a fantastic reward for some of the city’s players, coaches and volunteers to watch England’s Four Nations squad prepare.”
