McRae Ecstatic With Reds’ Big Match Attitude
July 3, 2009 by Paul Mc
Salford boss Shaun McRae could barely conceal his delight after the stunning victory against St Helens at The Willows and his biggest problem was finding an explanation for his side’s ability to raise themselves for the big matches.
The Australian, who enjoyed a highly successful spell as Saints coach between 1996 and 1998, has seen his men beat Leeds and Saints this season as well as Bradford and Warrington, but have struggled more against the teams around them on the ladder.
“I can’t explain it,” said McRae.
“You play against sides that are evenly matched and sometimes you just don’t perform, but the best sides bring the best out of you.
“This victory was just reward for the players’ effort. We had a set gameplan and it worked.
“And I’ve got to give credit to the players for being able to implement to that plan to a tee.
“I’m not happy with Jeremy Smith’s sinbinning but I’m generally very happy because we’ve beaten the best side in the competition in St Helens.”
Praise also went to Ratchford, who was doubtful for the game earlier in the week because of a groin injury.
“I’ve got to give credit to our medical staff for getting him on the field,” said McRae.
“He’s only had one proper training session this week but I thought he was outstanding.”

WELL PLAYED from 1 to 17 tonight a real team performance already looking forward to the tip down to South Wales.
KEEP IT GOING BOYS…..
