Young Guns To Lead Charge Against Saints
July 1, 2009 by Paul Mc
The Reds go into their biggest home game of the season against St Helens on Friday evening with a few faces missing, but the opportunity will arise for several of the Club’s young stars to shine.
Richie Myler will miss out with his heel injury keeping him from training all week, but there will be a welcome return for Luke Adamson to the second-row after a two-game absence.
The Reds are looking to bounce back after last week’s disappointment and with a spate of home fixtures in quick succession are in the hunt for some more Super League points.
“Realistically I’ds say we need to win seven of our remaining 10 games to have a shot at the playoffs. I’m not saying that’s impossible, but we need to get a roll on, especially at home. Young Dean McGilvray will come back into the reckoning. We are a bit short of outside backs through injury and he will be itching at the chance to play against his former club,” said McRae.
Reds’ forward Ian Sibbit is another who is pleased to be back at The Willows:
“It is great to be back home at the Willows. Opposition teams do not enjoy playing here as the away changing room is not luxurious and the fans are on top of you,” he said
Sibbit added: “From a personal and team point of view playing at home gives you confidence and it is so important to give the crowd something to sing about. I particular love it when the team has the opposition pinned in its own 20 and the crowd cheer every tackle. It definitely gives you a lift.”
“It is crucial to get off to a good start against Saints. The key is then to maintain the start throughout the 80 minutes. To stand any chance of winning, the team must win the collisions and control the speed of the ruck so as to stop Saints getting a roll on”
“Our discipline is crucial, lately we have been on the wrong end of the penalty count and we have piggy backed teams down field. This has got to stop and the responsibility for this lies with the individual,” he concluded.
Reds 19 Man Squad to face St Helens:
Wilshere, Goulding, Henry, Smith, McGilvray, Sibbit, Cashmere, Alker, Stapleton, Swain, Turner, Littler, Leuluai, Paul, Ratchford, Adamson, Jewitt, Walton, Sidlow
