A vastly improved first half performance from the Reds saw them take much fancied Hull KR in level at the break 12-12 having lead since the first minute through a try from the returning Paul White, followed by a touchline conversion from Wilshere. Rovers actually out-scored the Reds by three tries to two in the period but John Wilshire’s more accurate kicking meant the game was tied at the half-way stage.

The second half was a completely different story though as Rovers’ Michael Dobson began to run the show and Hull KR took control before eventually running out comfortable winners at a canter, with the Reds unable to even find a single point after the break.

Match Report.

Salford gave Hull KR a fright with a try after just 64 seconds before the home side started the second half with three tries in 15 minutes to run out comfortable winners.

Winger Peter Fox and scrum-half Michael Dobson recorded hat-tricks as Rovers scored 36 unanswered points.

Salford’s Jordan Turner opened the scoring with just over a minute on the clock, going in at corner with John Wilshere converting.

It took Rovers 10 minutes to close the gap when Ben Galea and Kris Welham created an opening for Scott Murrell to force his way over for an unconverted try.

But the visitors belied their lowly league position when they made it 12-4 on 16 minutes, Luke Adamson being sent in by Craig Stapleton and Wilshere again adding the extras.

Fox’s first try on 20 minutes reduced the deficit and the same player forced his way over after good approach work by Ben Fisher and Galea to level the scores at 12-12 at the break.

It was Rovers’ turn to score early in the second half, Dobson and Galea combining to send in Dobson on 42 minutes.

Dobson converted his own score before Fox went in at the corner for his hat-trick try from Chas I’Anson’s long pass on 48 minutes with Dobson again adding the extras.

swain

A defensive mix-up by Salford allowed Kris Welham to stroll in on 55 minutes with Dobson converting.

Ten minutes later Welham and I’Anson created an opening for Dobson to coast in and add the conversion to see Rovers 36-12 ahead.

Eight minutes before the end Salford spilled the ball and Dobson kicked ahead to touch down for his hat-trick try before adding the conversion.

In the last minute Welham jolted the ball loose in the tackle and picked up to touchdown.

how much longer do we have to put up with this rubbish and how many more times do we have to put up with the same old story from simms and the manager this has to stop now who as spotted these players what have they brought to this team nothing and the new ground where is it same old salford rubbish kick them out now and put a club in there that will at least try a sick to death salford fan

  2. craig on March 29th, 2009 16:33

I couldn’t make the game but i listen to it on the radio, and i thought great its all come together, but then we started to to play the same old rubbish again, and what happened in the second half, that was embarasing it was as though they had given up, oh where losing any way so lets slow down and back off and let them win by 36 points we had a chance but they let us down AGAIN,

    and wheres our stadium please!

  3. jack on March 29th, 2009 17:49

when or if will you be offering refunds on season tickets,I thought i was bying mine to watch a team of ‘Supreme athletes’ according to your website, the only time athletes should be used to describe the Salford team it would have to come before ‘FOOT’

  4. james daniels on March 29th, 2009 18:08

yeh first half good but we still got beat 48-12 its becomeing a joke and STOP SAYING INPROVEMENTS IT MEANS NOTHING IF HE GET BEAT BY MORE THEN 30 POINTS EVERY GAME MCRAE sort ya defence out

  5. Dave on March 29th, 2009 18:18

Poor defending second half. lost tries to easy mistakes. Lets only hope we beat warrington in a few weeks time. Nobody is expecting Salford to win the superleague but were getting hammered by 40+ week in week out. I Just wanna see a fighting decent performance. Wouldnt be too bothered if we just narrowed the gap to 10 point defeats but even that seems a long way off

  6. jack on March 29th, 2009 18:57

    Paul,
you edited my post because i named the guilty ones who dont bother to turn up at the games, that I pay to go and watch, whats the point of giving the facilty to comment if you cant say what you feel and who you belive is responsible, I do understand that you ,as a Salford employee cant allow genuine comments for fear of upsetting your fellow workers so you might as well shut down the comments site and lets all pretend everything in the gardens is rosey. If I should ever have the occasion to pay a compliment to the team I am sure you would not delete that. Double standards at best or is it cronism on your part

  7. big truck on March 29th, 2009 19:32

well said jack same happened to me, took a negative comment off due to upsetting club officials, what a load of hoop just like the team.

  8. big truck on March 29th, 2009 19:38

the fans are not happy something needs to be done, nothing is changing, alls the club give us is false hope, i quite frankly i as well as quite a few other fans are fed up with being fed the proverbial BS, answer the questions that are being asked, where is the supposedly new ground?????? where is the biggest pack in super league ??????????????? wheres the top quality rugby league for us to watch ????????? these all got put forward to the fans ages ago and still we are waiting, why dont the players come on here and answer the questions why why why ?????? i’ll tell you why it is because they dont care as long as they get paid whatever and a new house when they move over here wahey. i pay £5000+ for my holidays for my family, lets play for salford and get it free. bring in performance wages, alker needs to have more words than he actually doing, come on salford start getting a bit of pride back.

  9. Paul Mc on March 29th, 2009 19:40

    Jack,

I edited your post because you broke the rules of the site. Whether you choose to agree with those rules is neither here nor there.

The facility to comment is there so you can of course comment, however it is not there as a means of forcing your opinion on indiviuals upon people.

I assume if the company where you work had a website and somebody saw fit to slate you on it, especially based on asumptions, you would be requesting it be removed. And of course if the same people posted good things about you I sure you would not petition to delete that. Double standards?

Sport is an emotive past-time – it is nothing to do with “upsetting my fellow workers” – they are fully aware of the current climate. There are no heads in the sand

What is often overlooked on sites such as this is that potential players, talent etc read them to form an opinion on whether to sign or not, and I’ll be damned if people are going to be put off playing for us now or in the future because of my inability to prevent personal namecalling on this website.

This is no different from any other club that allows its fans to communicate with it via a public medium. Nobody uses our stick to beat us with.

Take a look at the other posts in this thread and elsewhere and see why they have not been moderated. I don’t believe it is difficult to comprehend.

I am always available on paul.mcnally@reds.co.uk or in the office if you wish to discuss it further.

  10. Paul Mc on March 29th, 2009 19:49

Big truck. Correct. Partly. You had a comment removed because you also broke the rules. Not because it upset anybody. It may have done further down the line, but that’s why it was removed. Because whether people like it or not there will be no hammering of individuals on here, and from memory wasn’t yours condoning something that people eventually got banned for? I recall emailing you directly to explain why I had done it too.

For the record. Since this site launched in October there have been 578 comments posted, and guess what – yours and Jacks are the only two edited. Maybe it’s not me or a “load of hoop” eh?

  11. big truck on March 29th, 2009 20:04

578 comments i bet more than halve of them are negative as well eh paul ? and as for condoning it, i don’t think so, where did the words ‘ i agree with what they did come into it ‘ i dont think they did somehow. it was out of order for what they did, can you not see either that the fans are not happy, we actually pay to watch this hoping that something will happen on the pitch, its ok for for you, you get payed to watch the games. asnwer me this do any of the players, coaches actually read any of these, do they not feel guilty of robbing us of our hard earned cash to chose to watch them, i could chose to watch swinton but no i am from salford, i want to watch slaford city reds play and play well not with heads hung down when they are getting beat by 30+ points, when do they actually thank the fans for coming to watch them, i have’nt seen it once this season, only as there walking off the pitch theres a little clap but thats it. players from other clubs from what i see on sky sports actually go up to there fans and thank them for coming win lose or draw. come on paul see it from our point of view, are you scared of what your employers will think if you did.

  12. Rusk on March 29th, 2009 20:29

Well, with performances like these I know that I’ll be putting £20 on Leeds :|

  13. Paul Mc on March 29th, 2009 20:31

I don’t see why you are trying to goad me into a row to be honest.

I also fail to see the relevance of more than half of 578 comments being negative. That just underlines my point, that the majority of people on here can comply with pretty much the only thing we ask when it comes to the website. If anybody doesn’t feel able to do that that’s when it becomes an issue. There are other places online to post that nonsense. This is not one of them.

I also don’t understand why “it’s okay for me, being paid to watch the games” like I don’t care. I saw my first Salford game when I was 7 years old, grew up, supported them home and away, worked around the world for massive companies came back to Salford and took a job there, so to suggest I couldn’t give a monkeys because of a few quid…. With my self-pity hat on if anything it’s tougher because I see both sides. I see the hurt on the fans on match day and the hurt on the players afterwards… Something the fans don’t see, and some don’t want to believe.

After seven games in it is apparent the level of expectation was way too high this season and probably fans, players and staff were all guilty of that.

And anybody who knows me, including my employers, know damn well that I’m not scared of what they think of me. I think with my level of experience that’s one of the reasons they pay me to do what I do.

  14. Chris W on March 29th, 2009 20:38

I think I can understand why people want to call what players do on the pitch but I guess we have to keep within the rules. I would say there are not many players that I would actually single out to say they even tried. To be honest the score really flattered Salford Hull KR were much better than the score sugested. I would have said 70-12 would show the class difference.
At least we can’t get relegated because if we could we would be looking forward to playing Widnes next year and I must admit I have to agree that my Widnes friends should feel hard done to not being there instead of us.
I really do think its laughable that we have signed world class players and no I am not naming players just the side because we are paying good money to watch what is the worse Salford side I have seen , yes we have had worse players but the other older sides tried when they put a shirt on.
I am so relieved my mates wife is having a baby so i have to cover my business when we are due to play Warrington. I will miss home games for the first time in decades and this will be my last season. Why because I want to watch rugby, I think I will have to go elsewhere.

  15. Chris W on March 29th, 2009 21:26

If I can just add that I would say that I said what I said because we a suposed to be watching a professional game and if the very very basics are not done to the slightest like the team is doing then they can forget it.

Our defence is below amateur of the vvvvvery basic they do not defend in a line they never cover the ball as they should , individuals break the line and miss the key tackles constantly. When you look at a teams stats they show breaks etc but the word break means to use force to penetrate resistance “WHAT RESISTANCE”
the tackling is attrocious beyond belief and the lack of coordination means the floodgates open. In attack we have problems stringing paases or thoughts together its absolute one off opportunism. I am astounded by the lack of dedication and professionalism.
I do not need to be told they feel bad when they lose. GOD DAMN they should feel bad worse than I do and believe me I feel bad as it gets. I am sick of the false dawns of our Yoyo teams up and down from season to season. You have to admire the rugby league for coming up wth an idea that actually guarantees a salford side doesn’t stays up for more than a season. If anyone can tell me what
progress has been made I will hold my hands up.
Please do not tell me we have 20% of the quality needed to do well in this situation because its obvious, We are well known for certain accross the world players being passed their best before coming here, just like the old days with the other teams but unlike the other teams we have not moved on with selection of past sell by dates players.
Our future is dismal and we will need more than lottery winning type luck to not finish bottom.
    Its as good as that.
    .
    We need

  16. big truck on March 29th, 2009 22:06

fans guilty of high expectations, it was coaching staff (being carefull not mention any names incase of being ‘told off’ ) and players in papers on the website saying how good we are going to be with these classy overseas signings we have made, i remember sky sports against the crusaders, our now captain (again being careful not to single anyone out) said that salford city reds were a very close, sorry, tight team, well can they please show me where they are tight because it certainly isnt on the playing field, i also have worked around the world with the british army and yes for once we agree i came home for family and salford city reds, i have also supported them since an early age and have seen some bad times, but not as bad as this. the fans feel so much for mr wilkinson, it seems he’s just pouring money down the drain, and no-one seems to be answering the question of where is the new ground, all that seems to be going on there is a dirt groung for the bikes, but thats being going on for years, why have the plans not been published for anyone to see, mmmmmmmmmm, something dodgy it seems, us fans are mushrooms kept in the dark and fed on the proverbial.
sorry if you think i was trying to argue with you paul that is not the case, just trying to put the case across probably what all salford fans think.

  17. big truck on March 29th, 2009 22:07

and i think your doing a good job doing the pre match entertainment on the pitch, you could try and get the fans on the other side to sing as well though, its not just the shed that needs to sing, get em going, better atmosphere may bring the players up a bit.

  18. Paul Mc on March 29th, 2009 22:24

    …yes I am still up doing this…:)

As I said I (personally) believe the fans were guilty of high expectations. I was there at wakey when they booed them off at half time. At Cas where there was a lot of rubbish went on. Yet a few weeks later these teams lie 4 and 8th in the table and we’d played one home game against the team who came up with us.

Against Quins – another team we all believed we should be beating…then they put 60 on Warrington – a team people perenially tip for the Grand Final.

And I also believe staff, players and coaches were too – but equally I want them to be because I want them going into the season believing in themselves.

Cas, Hull KR, Celtic and ourselves have all struggled in the initial weeks between NL1 and SL. Cas and Hull KR no longer have that problem…

As for the ground, nothing’s being kept secret, there’s just nothing publishable at the mo. There are new plans knocking about internally but nothing rubber-stamped for approval.

Between the Peels, the Councils, the Club and the College there are a lot of people safeguarding a lot of interests for some huge organisations. It’s a lot more complex than when Red City were just “going to build our new stadium and put a big casino in it”

I’m off to bed shortly cos my nipper is poorly and I get the feeling I’ll be up most of the night so if you can all behave till the morning it will be muchos appreciated ;-)

  19. Graham Morris on March 31st, 2009 16:48

For Salford to compete in the top half of the table and remain there they must have a blend of experience and youth, and more importantly players that run their weight and above. Small full backs are not acceptable in this modern game, neither are centers that can’t hold a line and do basic blanket cover tackling. The inability to cover the ball when tackling never ceases to amaze me, and the forgotten art of the hand off. We need forwards that will break the tackle regularly and not try to side step on the last second, kidding nobody (you know who you are). Sean McRae is arguably one of the best coaches around, but more money is required to bring quality to our great club, and everybody knows, success brings success. If anybody knows of any budding Mike Coulmans or Chris Heskeths, please get in touch with the club.
