Reds’ Try-Machine Back For Super League Bow
March 27, 2009 by Paul Mc
Salford City Reds 2008 top-scorer with 30 tries, Paul White is set to make his long-awaited Super League bow for the club after picking up a pre-season injury in Jacksonville, Florida.
Initially it was hoped White would only miss the first game or so of the new campaign but Head Coach Shaun McRae has finally been able to name his flying winger in his 19-man squad to face Hull KR at Craven Park on Sunday.
Also coming into the 19 for a potential debut is former Saints junior Dean McGilvray, while John Wilshere also returns to the fold after a minor knee problem.
Mark Henry, Ian Sibbit and Steve Nash all make way through injury with Nash undergoing an operation on a thumb that is expected to keep him out for a month, but McRae will be pleased to see some new faces available in his outside back line where the Reds have struggled for numbers in recent weeks.
Paul White said: “I’m really pleased to be back in contention. It’s been really frustrating watching the lads go to work since Jacksonville and I’m really looking forward to making my Super League debut for Salford if the coach gives me the nod. I feel really sharp and training has gone well so I’m really looking forward to playing first grade again.”
Reds 19 Man Squad to face Hull KR: Fitzpatrick, Wilshere, White, McGilvray, Smith, Myler, Sidlow, Cashmere, Alker, Stapleton, Parker, Swain, Turner, Littler, Leuluai, Paul, Ratchford, Adamson, Jewitt
