Willie Talau Latest To Join New-Look Reds
October 7, 2008 by Paul Mc
Salford City Reds have confirmed the signing of St Helens centre Willie Talau on a two-year contract.
The 32-year-old Talau, who joined Saints from Canterbury Bulldogs five years ago, made the last of his 152 appearances for them in Saturday’s 24-16 Grand Final defeat by Leeds.
Reds director of football Steve Simms said: “Willie is an outstanding player and has played at the highest level for many years. He will bring that experience and knowledge of the game to the Willows.”
Talau, who scored 66 tries for St Helens, won 13 caps with New Zealand and played for them in the 2000 World Cup final but is hoping to be named in Samoa’s final squad for the World Cup.
He is expected to link up with the Reds for pre-season training in December ahead of their return to Super League.
