The Reds crashed to defeat in South Wales in the last game of the regular season, but with the Celts needing to win to secure second and Salford already guarenteed top spot it was perhaps a result many would have predicted.

The result now means the Crusaders will visit The Willows in a few weeks for the Grand Final Eliminator and there is no doubt they will be bouyed by this success.

Swain Joins Reds’ Revolution

August 14, 2008 by Paul Mc · Comments Off

Gold Coast Titans back row forward Luke Swain is the third NRL capture in as many weeks for the Salford City Reds, as Head Coach Shaun McRae begins to put together an impressive looking squad for the clubs return to Super League in 2009.

“Luke is a quality back rower and has played in the NRL for many years so will be bringing plenty of experience to the team next year. There is a real buzz about the place at the moment and hopefully the fans will soon start to get excited about us going back into Super League.”

Signing for the Titans in 2007, their inaugural year in the NRL, Swain previously played for Penrith Panthers where he picked up a Grand Final winners ring as part of the 2003 Premiership winning team,  but will now be booking a flight to Manchester as he embarks on a two year deal with the Reds.

Reds’ Director of Football Steve Simms said:

“Luke is a quality back rower and has played in the NRL for many years so will be bringing plenty of experience to the team next year. There is a real buzz about the place at the moment and hopefully the fans will soon start to get excited about us going back into Super League.”

Whilst plans are being made for the future, the Reds current priority is to complete a successful 2008 campaign, with thoughts currently on the penultimate game of the season at home to Batley this Sunday (17 August, KO 3pm) and a trip to Celtic Crusaders at the end of the month.

Already confirmed as league leaders the Reds will receive the shield after the game this weekend.  Tickets for the game are available from the club shop or by calling the ticket office on 0161 736 6564

Licence Review Press Release

August 14, 2008 by Kate P · Comments Off

Yesterday (Wednesday) saw the final licence review meeting at the Willows, further to the granting of a Super League berth to Salford City Reds on July 22.

‘The Reds’ bid was a ‘very convincing and thorough application. Staff have contributed in different sections which demonstrates both competency and quality of people.’

At the meeting the RFL detailed the selection process, as well as discussing the benefits and drawbacks of the actual application exercise, assessing the 1600+ page bid that the Reds produced. Each departmental business plan received detailed feedback as well as an overall assessment, with the marketing, media and community department receiving an encouraging report.

During the review the RFL commented:

‘The Reds’ bid was a ‘very convincing and thorough application. Staff have contributed in different sections which demonstrates both competency and quality of people. The application shows they have plans and targets of what they want to achieve. There was a good media plan with plenty of examples of working practices and good media management of the stadium process.’

Reds Chief Executive, David Tarry Commented:

“Both the application process and the review meeting was extremely beneficial to the club. It is reassuring to know that the RFL warmly endorses our working practices and that we are on the right track as a club to enhance the super league competition for the next three years and beyond.

“The feedback received was hugely useful to the club in terms of how to strengthen our operations and ensure our application for 2012 is even stronger.”

Staff at Salford City Reds were delighted with the contents of the review, but accept that there are huge challenges ahead as the move to a new stadium draws closer.

-Ends-
