Rugby League Exhibition
October 10, 2006 by Paul Mc
With the engage Super League Grand Final a few days away, Manchester United opened their Rugby League exhibition at Old Trafford’s world famous Museum and Tour Centre this week.
All clubs involved in this season’s Play-Off series have provided items for display, including trophies, shirts and programmes and despite being a staunch Leeds United supporter, Assistant Coach James Lowes made a trip down to Old Trafford to donate a pair of his old boots for the exhibition.
Support for this project has come in from all quarters of Rugby League. There are exhibits on loan from the Gillette Rugby League Heritage Centre at the George Hotel in Huddersfield and from the game’s governing body, the RFL.
The exhibition runs to 31st October 2006 – either side of the engage Super League Grand Final and traces the history of Rugby League with particular reference to the matches staged at Old Trafford and highlights Manchester United Football club’s connections with the oval ball.~
The exhibition is probably the only opportunity for Rugby League fans to see all these items under the one roof and throughout the exhibition a specially discounted admission price is available for any Rugby League fan arriving wearing a Rugby League shirt or producing either a season ticket or a 2006 engage Super League Grand Final ticket.
The Museum only price will be £4.50 (normally £6.00) and the Museum and Stadium Tour will be £8.00 (normally £9.50). The behind the scenes tour enables people to see the stadium’s press areas, the old players’ tunnel, the dug-outs, the home dressing-room and the chance to walk down the players’ tunnel to the noise of the crowd.
Tours are normally available every day except match-day. However, during October there is an England football fixture as well as a Champions League game when restrictions will apply in the build up. It is advisable to ring up for full details if a tour is required.
