Dallas Cowboys Backing the Reds

August 16, 2006 by Paul Mc · Comments Off

News of the Reds spectacular season so far has travelled far and wide with a message of best wishes and a personal gift for Captain Malcolm Alker from the American NFL team the Dallas Cowboys.

Simon Ward, assistant coach first met the Reds during pre-season training in Jacksonville, Florida earlier this year and news of their current fifth position in Super League prompted him to send a message of best wishes.

Malcolm was delighted to receive the shirt signed by
Dallas Cowboys Head Coach Bill Parcells which will now take pride of place on his personal sports wall at home.

With the cowboys well into the last few weeks of training before the NFL season officially begins the Reds would like to send a message of thanks and best wishes to Bill, Simon and the Cowboys.

Good luck for the new season.

Bullen Conservation is a young, professional company specialising in the restoration of fine and historic buildings, and is already noted for its impressive work on a number of high profile projects across Salford, Manchester and the North West.

Mike Bullen, MD, said, “Bullen Conservation is pleased to have been associated with Salford City Reds for the 2006 season which has been enjoyable and most successful. We are delighted to announce that we will be continuing our support to the club for the 2007 season.”

Bullen Conservation will be supporting the Reds as a Founder Member of their iconic new stadium at Barton. With the Reds looking to move into a new iconic stadium, Bullen Conservation has pledged its support of the club until that key date.

Reds’ Chairman John Wilkinson OBE said, “It is with great pleasure that I welcome back Mike and his team as business partners and founder members with Salford City Reds for the second year. Bullen Conservation holds the same personal and business values as we do at the Club, and is exactly the kind of business we wish to be involved with.”

Super Saturday at Asda

August 14, 2006 by Paul Mc · Comments Off

Saturday saw Salford City Reds and Great Britain players Malcolm Alker and David Hodgson attending ‘Rugby League Saturday’ – a nationwide initiative launched by Great Britain Sponsors Gillette.

Gillette joined forces with Asda, Eastlands to launch the company’s latest razor, Gillette Fusion and begin the countdown to the Gillette Tri- Nations which takes place in Australia and New Zealand in the Autumn

The promotion was a great success and many thanks to all the Salford fans who made the trip across the city to see Malcolm and David and take advantage of photograph opportunities. We’ve added a few of our own to the website.

Malcolm and David would also like to personally thank the staff at Asda Eastlands who looked after them during the promotion.

M.E.N. and Channel M Join Forces with Reds

August 11, 2006 by Paul Mc · Comments Off

Salford City Reds are delighted to announce that the Manchester Evening News and Channel M are to become an Associate Main Sponsor of the Reds for the next three seasons, and the logos of both brands will be carried on the sleeve and shorts of the playing kit until 2009.

At the same time they will also reinforce their position as the Reds’ official Media Partners for the same period and will be the sponsor for The Willows stand at the historic Willows ground for the 2007/2008 seasons.

Continuing the Reds’ strong relationship with the Manchester Evening News and Channel M, this latest announcement will further strengthen the partnership and allow the City Reds to raise their profile across Greater Manchester.

Channel M’s weekly Code XIII show has been a huge hit with Reds’ fans, allowing them access to behind the scenes footage at The Willows like never before while the Manchester Evening News is always the first port of call for fans looking for the latest news hot off the press.

Club Chairman John Wilkinson OBE said: “This is tremendous news for Salford City Reds. To be associated with such a widely recognised brand and to carry their name on our kit is a true sign of where we are headed..

“Once again we are able to team with up with a household name on a sporting, business and community level, and as a professional sports club we will do our very best to ensure that all parties can achieve the maximum possible from this exciting long-term partnership.”

Mark Dodson, CEO of Guardian Regional Media Division said : “We are delighed to support Salford City Reds. John Wilkinson and his team have ambitious plans and Channel M and the MEN look forward to the arrival of the new stadium and success on the pitch.”

Record Breaking Sale

August 10, 2006 by Paul Mc · Comments Off

Last week’s game day sale was a huge success for the Salford City Reds, with the Club Shop taking the most money in a single day that it has ever taken! The numbers that squeezed themselves into the shop took us all by surprise, and poor Tracey was a gibbering wreck behind the counter by the time the shutters were finally pulled down half an hour after the final whistle.

Everyone involved wanted to say a big thank you to those who came down and bagged themselves a bargain – it really is a great boost for the club, and we hope you all appreciate just how much difference it makes. We all want to see a great team performing week after week on the pitch and you can rest assured that every penny of profit is ploughed straight back into the club to make us even better than we are already on and off the field!

So we got to thinking… What better way to say thank you than to DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN! Yes, that’s right, this Friday we’ll be giving you loyal Salfordians a second chance to take advantage of some truly ridiculous prices! Even lower than last week in a lot of cases! Can you afford not to be a part of it?

Dorn Breaks for Willows

August 9, 2006 by Paul Mc · Comments Off

Salford City Reds have announced the capture of Australian stand-off Luke Dorn from Harlequins on a two year deal beginning next season.

Dorn has been a long-time target for the Reds’ coaching staff since it became apparent that Andrew Dunemann would be returning Down Under at the end of this season.

Dorn’s capture has excited the Reds as the try-scoring half-back will now hopefully form an electric partnership with the in-form Luke Robinson.

Reds’ Director of Football Steve Simms said: “Luke has pace to burn. He is a try scorer and there is an awful lot of quality there.

“He has outstanding speed and we are hoping that with the other Luke (Robinson), we will have one of the best half-back partnerships in next year’s competition and it will enable us to kick on even further than we have this year.”

Meanwhile the Reds’ can also announce that Assistant Coach James Lowes has signed a 2-year contract extension that will keep him at The Willows until the end of the 2008 season.

Lowes has recently been linked with several high-profile Head Coach positions and Simms was understandably delighted to secure his services for the next two seasons.

“Jimmy told us he never wanted to leave. He told me just now that he sees a very bright future here at Salford, especially with the new Stadium on the horizon and he is desperate to be part of that success.

“He is a great coach and we want to surround our players with men of his calibre.”

Reds ban Further Supporter

August 8, 2006 by Paul Mc · Comments Off

A further banning order has been issued by the club to a Salford City Reds supporter following the incident at the game against Les Catalans Dragons at Narbonne.

The individual concerned has now been banned from attending all further home games this season, although it should be noted that the supporter helped his case considerably by co-operating fully with the club.

Salford City Reds CEO, David Tarry said, ‘Once again my thanks to the supporters who came forward giving a detailed account of the incident in Narbonne. With this level of cooperation the club is able to deal swiftly and effectively with these problems”

The club would like to reiterate that bottles are banned from The Willows and would ask all supporters to refrain from bringing their own bottled drinks into the ground.

Crowd Incident

August 3, 2006 by Paul Mc · Comments Off

APPEAL FOR INFORMATION

Salford City Reds have been notified by the RFL of a disciplinary complaint in relation to the Super League match between Catalan Dragons and Salford City Reds on the 22nd July 2006. It is alleged that after the 72nd minute try by a Catalan Dragons player that a bottle was thrown on to the pitch from an area of the ground where the Salford fans were seated.

This is another very serious matter and the club would like to urge any Reds fans who witnessed this incident to come forward in confidence and identify the culprit(s) for us so that they can be dealt with accordingly. This kind of behaviour cannot and will not be tolerated by either Salford City Reds or the Rugby Football League.

Related to this we would like to remind all supporters that with immediate effect all bottled drinks are now banned from the ground – you will neither be allowed to bring them in with you, or purchase them from the food outlets inside The Willows.

We realise that this move has upset some fans, but felt that there was no other option open to us in light of these repeated incidents and the threat of severe sanctions hanging over the club.

D-Day Looms for Barton Project

August 1, 2006 by Paul Mc · Comments Off

Salford City Reds will find out in November if they will be granted permission for their proposed new £140million stadium.

The engage Super League club’s proposals to relocate to a brownfield site near the M60 at Barton were considered by a public inquiry which ended last month.

The Reds have now been told that a decision on the project will be made by Ruth Kelly, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, on or before November 28.

Chairman John Wilkinson said: “It’s great that we finally have an end date. It has been a long and interesting process to get to the stage that the club is at, and now the waiting is almost over.

“I am confident the Secretary of State will give the Reds and the people of Salford the best present we could ever wish for and grant us our new stadium for the future.”

Salford have been at The Willows for 105 years and currently attract average crowds of 4,500, but they hope to reinvent themselves with their new 20,000-capacity arena.

The site chosen for development will also feature a hotel, restaurants and a retail park if given the go-ahead.
