Reds Set for Historic French Trip
March 23, 2006 by Paul Mc · Comments Off
The Reds head into uncharted territory with their visit to the Aime Giral to face a Catalans Dragons side hungry for revenge after their Willows whitewash last month.
The victory over the French has been just one of the many highights of the Reds 4-2 start to the campaign and few will forget the nilling on that bitterly cold night.
The French have barely recovered although began to show signs of life with their last-gasp victory at Warrington last weekend.
Sean Rutgerson, Kevin McGuinness, Ian Sibbit, Mitchell Stringer and Stephen Myler are the absentees fromt he Reds’ travelling party but Karl Harrison welcomes back Utility, John Wilshere who missed out at Headingley last weekend with a groin strain.
A further victory for the Reds would set them up nicely for a hectic five games in a three week period – four of which at home, which could shape te rest of the season for them as far as their playoff hopes go.
We’ll be following the Reds’ on tour witch a feature next week after the boys return from the South of France.
Any Salford fans travelling to France can go and watch the team train in France on Friday at the Stadium between 10 and 11.30 am.
Fans are reminded that we switch to British Summer Time on Saturday evenig and to double check their flight arrangements to avoid any potential flight-related disasters

McGuinness Back in U21s Win
March 8, 2006 by Paul Mc · Comments Off
Salford City Reds Senior Academy side put in a great performance to beat the Wigan Warriors for the second time in 72 hours.
The Reds rolled over Ian Millward’s juniors 18-8 but could take other huge plus points from the game as well.
Aussie star Kevin McGuinness played his first 40 minutes since rupturing knee ligaments last year and came through well much to the delight of the watching Alan Hunte and Scott Naylor.
“Having Buddha back was the most pleasing aspect of the night” , Hunte told us.
“It was a great win and greta performance against an Academy side that is always strong. They had Bryan Fletcher who has played State of Origin and Test football in their side and he’s not a bad name to have in your Academy line-up.”, he continued.
The Reds had several under 18 players in the likes of Rathford, Jordan, Turner, Briers and Adamsom as well as a host of first teamers making up the numbers including Stewart, Langi, Charkes, Jonkers, Stringer and Clayton who had a great game.
Hunte joked: “They all did well but in the first 40 minutes the first teamers probably made more mistakes than the young lads”
